How Does a DC Power Supply Convert AC to DC?

A DC power supply converts alternating current (AC) into stable direct current (DC) through a multi-stage process. First, an AC to DC converter uses a rectifier circuit (usually diodes) to change AC into pulsating DC. Then a filter smooths the ripple, and a regulator stabilizes the output into a constant voltage. This final output can power sensitive electronics. Devices like an AC DC adapter, a 12V DC power supply, or a variable power supply all use this same core conversion principle but differ in output control and application.

A DC power supply is an essential component in almost every electronic system. It takes standard mains electricity (AC) and transforms it into a usable DC output that electronic circuits require. Step 1: AC to DC Conversion (Rectification)
